The insurance companies in the Caribbean region have been confronted with tough situations to play an important role in providing safety and security within local tourism.

While giving example to the revival process of Jamaica tourism from the ill- impacts of COVID-19, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, Jamaica, said that during the COVID, the insurance sector was called on board as a safety valve to provide a kind of pledge to the visitors that they had defense if anything had occurred when they came to the destination. This, he said, was vital to the early revival of tourism.

The position of Mr. Minister Bartlett was affirmed yesterday as he conveyed the important speech at the Hall of Fame Induction dinner organized by the 34th Sales Congress of the Caribbean Association of
Insurance and Financial Advisors, at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay.

He said that as the islands act immediately to incorporate flexibility as an important part of its agenda related to tourism development, Caribbean companies related to insurance can play a vital role in protecting tourism from future crises.

He recorded many ways in which the industry of the insurance can contribute to tourism resilience, like offering income loss coverage and property damage caused by different kinds of natural calamities,
pandemics or other disturbances; aiding individuals and businesses and evaluating the risk associated with their activities.
