Before authorising Mopa International Airport in North Goa, Rohan Khaunte, Goa Tourism Minister, arranged a meeting with GMR Goa International Airport Ltd. It has actually grabbed the project. Khaunte on Monday had talks with the officials of GMR Goa International Airport Limited. The first phase of Mopa Airport has been temporarily proposed on August 15th, 2022.

Khaunte while sharing his thoughts with the reporters said that the Mopa Airport, once done, will be a major game-changer as Dabolim at this moment has its own limitations. Dabolim is managed by the Indian Navy and is located inside the INS Hansa, the defence base.

Khaunte also added that Goa tourism department will have to “put its things right” keeping in mind tourist types that will be coming to the state after the airport is commissioned.

He also mentioned that the airport management and the department of Goa tourism will have to work out a ‘consolidated plan’. This plan will help in increasing footfalls in this Indian coastal state.

Also, the tourism minister emphasized that this airport will manage cargo as well. This in return can turn out to be a win-win situation for Goa.

He said that they will take a decision on the focus areas. At the same time, which countries the government is aiming on and what plans they have about tourists are needed to be decided, adding that before commissioning, e-visas need to be put in place at the airport.
