Belarus is depending on the assistance of the UNWTO for drafting the national tourism promotion concept for the period till 2035, Belarus’ Deputy Premier Igor Petrishenko said while meeting with the UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili on 1 July.
“Tourism promotion is high on our agenda. We have potential, but I guess it is underutilized. Therefore, your recommendations will be more than welcome. We are drafting a tourism promotion concept for the period till 2035. We have plans to introduce amendments to the Law on Tourism. We are interested in country-specific suggestions of UNWTO,” Igor Petrishenko said.
The UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili assured that he is a great friend and partner of Belarus in the UN system. “We believe that our expertise can be used while drafting the 2035 strategy and amending the Law on Tourism. We will be glad to be involved,” Pololikashvili noted.
Pololikashvili said that Belarus needs to focus on two things – promotion of Minsk and agro-ecotourism. The latter will help involve regions in tourism promotion.
