Bleisure travel gaining popularity – SAP Concur study

Bleisure trips increased by 20 per cent, from year 2016 to 2017, as per the new SAP Concur – Hipmunk travel and expense data 2017. Bleisure travel means a trip that combines both business and leisure.

 

 

In 2017, there are 2.2. million bleisure trips. The report takes into account the travel and expense data between January and December 2017. As per the Concur Hipmunk data, 16 per cent of the business trip hotel bookings included a Saturday night stay.

 

 

 

Manufacturing, tech, and financial services comprised 40 per cent of all bleisure trips in 2017. Bleisure trips peaked in months September and October. The average trip was extended by two days across various industries.

 

 

 

As per SAP Concur more bleisure trips were taken by Millennials (38 per cent), Generation X (31 per cent) and Baby Boomers (31 per cent).

 

 

 

Most bleisure trips occur outside the United States. Since 2016, these trips increased 46 per cent to the EMEA zone (Europe, the Middle East, and Asia) and 45 per cent to The Asia-Pacific (APAC) .

 

 

 

The nine of the most common bleisure destinations include New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, London, Paris, Tokyo, Singapore, and Shanghai.

 

 

 

As per the SAP Concur study, 70 per cent of bleisure travellers used Airbnb lodgings as compared to 10 per cent hotel bookings. About 76 per cent of Millennials booked an Airbnb stay, as against six per cent of the Baby Boomers.

 

 

If meetings are scheduled on Monday or Friday, then Saturdays and Sundays can be utilized for leisure.
