The new idea of border tourism has turned out to be quite popular in the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. The individual governments reopened border destinations along the international border (IB) and Line of Control (LOC) for visitors.

Tourists are visiting the border places that provide an eyeball-to-eyeball familiarity with people across the IB and LOC.

Teetwal on the LOC in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, Suchetgarh along the IB in the Jammu district and Turtuk on the LOC in Ladakh are witnessing amplified number of tourists after support from the relevant governments.

Militarily planned Turtuk was seized by India during the 1971 war with Pakistan. It has turned into India’s northernmost village on the LOC. Turtuk is seeing a large number of tourists who are eager to witness the Baltistani culture and stone utensils crafted in the vicinity.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has provided a momentum to border tourism at Suchetgarh.

For upholding Teetwal as tourist spot under border tourism in the Valley, the J&K Tourism Department in association with district admin of Kupwara, Lolab- Bungus-Dringyari Development Authority (LBDDA), Cultural Academy and Army held a border tourism fiesta on the banks of Kishen Ganga at Teetwal adjacent to zero line.

The festival saw involvement of several local and non-local tourists with a lot of elaboration. Director Tourism, GN Itoo was the chief guest at this event.
