AFAR said Brisbane had emerged from the shadows of its more famous southern sisters and is basking in a newfound confidence that can only come from a glorious tropical climate, a stunning setting, and a thriving cultural scene.
Travel + Leisure noted it was winter in the southern hemisphere but recommended Brisbane for its mild climate, “making its myriad of outdoor activities even more attractive for visitors”.
The city’s presence on the ‘hot lists’ follows Travel + Leisure naming Brisbane as one of the 50 best places to travel in 2019 earlier in the year. US Conde Nast Traveler also coupled Brisbane with the Whitsundays as one of the 19 best places to go in 2019.
US-based Forbes and Architectural Digest have also recently sung the city’s praises. Lead US travel magazines AFAR and Travel + Leisure both recommended Brisbane as a top international destination to travel to during the months of July and August respectively.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said international campaigns conducted by partners Brisbane Marketing, Tourism and Events Queensland and Tourism Australia along with local hotels, venues and tourism operators had helped raise awareness of the city’s new offerings.
Cr Schrinner said that high-end travel magazines in the U.S. are telling their readers that there’s more to see and do in Brisbane as world-class new hotels and culinary offerings come online. The American magazines praise the city’s amazing subtropical climate, thriving cultural scene and superb outdoor lifestyle. Brisbane is certainly on the hot list in America right now, with a record number of U.S. visitors travelling to the city in the year to March, up 5.9 per cent to 105,000. They expect the momentum of U.S. visitation to continue as Qantas’s new direct Dreamliner flights from San Francisco and Chicago begin next year.
“The new partnership between Brisbane Marketing and Brisbane Airport Corporation has identified the US as a top priority market for the city, which will see them conduct marketing activities showcasing Brisbane as a destination of choice.”
