Bristol Airport gets expansion go-ahead

Bristol Airport has received the go-ahead for expansion which will increase its capacity from 10 million passengers a year to 12 million.

The expansion, approved by the Planning Inspectorate, will also see upgrades to the terminal building, parking facilities and public transport links.

The airport’s expanded capacity will add 800 jobs on site as well as up to 5,000 regionally, according to a statement.

A fund is being set up to help those who face barriers to employment with £300,000 put in place for training initiatives, work experience and apprenticeships.

The expanded capacity is expected to include new direct routes to Europe as well as the Middle East and North America.

Dave Lees, CEO of Bristol Airport said that Bristol Airport welcomes the decision of the Planning Inspectorate.




The decision is excellent news for our region’s economy, allowing us to create thousands of new jobs in the years ahead and provide more choice for our customers, supporting inbound tourism, and reducing the millions of road journeys made to London airports each year.

Earlier this month Bristol Airport announced a £2.6 million redevelopment of its airside departure lounge. The three-month project is expected to be completed by Easter.
