North Somerset Council’s planning officers have reviewed Bristol Airport’s application in detail and obtained technical advice on a range of key issues.
Local people and stakeholders across the region have also been consulted and their views considered in the process of producing this positive recommendation.
We welcome the conclusions reached in the officers’ report which we hope will be echoed by members of the Planning & Regulatory Committee when they consider the Airport’s application on 10 February.
A successful, sustainable airport is vital to the continued success of our region. These plans to handle an additional two million passengers a year are a practical step to meeting continued demand from passengers and businesses in a way that minimises impacts on our neighbours and the environment.
Latest figures show that nearly nine million passengers used Bristol Airport in 2019, up more than three per cent over the previous year. This increase in passengers was achieved with fewer flights, illustrating how the airport is operating more efficiently to decouple environmental impacts from growth.
