Brit tourist, 57, killed on holiday in Barcelona

A Brit tourist was killed after being run over by a tram in Barcelona, yards away from a music festival. The emergency services were alerted just after 11pm on Wednesday night after the Scottish traveller was hit. This afternoon, City Hall sources confirmed the victim was a 57-year-old.

The incident took place near to the Diagonal Mar retail centre in Barcelona – close to the Parc del Forum where Pet Shop Boys performed on the opening night of the Primavera Sound 2023 music festival yesterday.

The concert-goers had been leaving the premises at the time the unnamed man was killed by the tram. It is unknown whether the tourist was part of the concert crowd, but the tram operators have told local press that he had been heading in the opposite direction to the people leaving the festival. A person with him, whose age and nationality has not yet been revealed, was uninjured and was today receiving psychological assistance.

TRAM Barcelona said in a tweet earlier today, TRAM would like to send its condolences to the family and friends of the man who died in last night’s tragedy. A police investigation is was underway last night and the company operating the tram service has passed on video footage of the incident to assist cops.
