British Airways is going to sign a codeshare agreement with Malaysia Airlines that will include a total of 23 destinations across the Asia Pacific region. From October 9, the new code will be added to 14 routes that are operated by Malaysia Airlines within Malaysia including Penang, Langkawi and Kota Kinabalu as well as nine cities in Australia, Indonesia, Cambodia, New Zealand and Vietnam.

Travellers booking these flights through British Airways will be able to check through to their final destination and collect their boarding passes in advance. The Executive Club members will be getting frequent flyer benefits and Avios can be used on upgrades, reward flights, hotels, experiences and part payment.

In return, Malaysia customers will be able to book flights to Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and New Castle via Heathrow with British Airways. Subject to approval, Malaysia Airlines will also be codesharing with British Airways on European points including Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Brussels, Geneva, Hamburg, Lyon, Toulouse, Paris and Zurich.

The Group CEO of Malaysia Airlines, Captain Izham Ismail, said that the carrier was thrilled about the increased opportunities this codeshare agreement with British Airways would bring for visitors from across the United Kingdom to explore the range of unique destinations that Malaysia offers.

The development has coincided with the launch of Visit Malaysia 2020, a landmark initiative which aims to unite industry players behind a shared goal of welcoming 30 million tourists to Malaysia in 2020.

British Airways operates daily flights from London Heathrow to Kuala Lampur, which is world’s one of the largest aviation hubs.

Director of Networks and Alliances of British Airways, Neil Chernoff, said that the Codeshare with Malaysia Airlines would further strengthen the destination proposition for customers and it would give them more benefits while flying to Asia and South-West Pacific. Both the carriers are committed to excellent customer service,” said Chernoff.
