The Buenos Aires City government recently announced that the capital has decided to re-open to national and international visitors for tourism starting next month. The City Hall confirmed that a comprehensive testing system would be put in place to monitor the health of visitors will be allowed to arrivals via airports, ports, bus, train and private vehicles, starting next month.
The City government, led by Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, also mentioned that Tourists and residents returning to the city will not have to go into mandatory isolation upon arrival. However, all visitors will require a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival and will only need to isolate if it comes back positive. The first run of testing operations is likely to begin in two weeks time, on December 8, with installations at bus terminals and in the Costanera Sur.
Travellers arriving by private vehicles will have to take a COVID-19 test within 24 hours of their arrival. The country will also not allow people from all nationalities to arrive as of now as the government has only approved entry from neighbouring countries to date. The City Hall mentioned in its statement that arrivals from Chile, Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay are enabled exclusively by air, while arrivals from Uruguay will be permitted by air and river.
The government mentioned that different testing instances are being planned to guarantee the care of international tourists as of December 15 and national tourists as of December 8, alongside residents of the city. It mentioned that with regard to arrivals by air in Ezeiza International Airport, the City will launch an operation to test national and international tourists and residents as they enter the country, from December 15.
Felipe Miguel, Chief-of-Staff, City Government added that tourism is always a source of work for porteños and mentioned that present conditions are allowing authorities to reopen the doors of Buenos Aires for more people to get to know the wonderful city, taking all precautions for prevention against the coronavirus. He also assured that a testing system for each tourist has been arranged and the protocol has already been put together.
