Cabinet supports Harrogate Convention Centre renovation with £1m

Harrogate Convention Centre to be renovated with support of £1m for design work from cabinet. Senior council has shared the plan recently about this renovation project. The project is expected to cost £47m on competition. This 40year old venue was identified as a risky structure and hence for its survival an investment was needed.

The centre director Paula Lorimer mentioned that an approval of £1m has been approved by the council for its renovation work. Harrogate Convention Centre attracts about 157,000 visitors each year and hence to support the need, the council’s cabinet has approved the renovation expenditure of this historical structure.

The 40-year-old venue is however at present serve as the NHS Nightingale hospital and could support the health services till March. The makeshift hospital has warned there is a risk in operating it as a healthcare facility and it might not survive without investment.

Harrogate Convention Centre (HCC) identified a loss of about £710,000 in 2019/20, hence to re-attract visitors and emerge as a preferred destinations of the visitors, Centre director Paula Lorimer mentioned that the renovation work would revive its image and hence the site received an of the £1m from an extraordinary meeting session. It is expected to attract visitors and generate revenue, but in order to attract tourists, it is essential to focus on the renovation work as the condition of the structure is weak and risky for users. A support from the cabinet has encouraged the director to plan and opine on future plans.
