Calgary, known for its legacy in curling, will once again play a pivotal role in the sport’s national scene in 2027. From February 22 to 26, the city will host the highly anticipated 2027 U SPORTS Canadian University and Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) curling championships at the Calgary Curling Club. This event will add another impressive chapter to Calgary’s rich history of hosting major curling competitions, solidifying its reputation as a hub for the sport.
In recent years, Calgary has been the epicenter of curling events in Canada. The city has been the site of numerous national and international championships, including the successful 2021 Calgary Bubble events, the 2022 Pan Continental Championships, and the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Additionally, Calgary is preparing to host the 2026 BKT World Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Pharmasave, in March 2026. These prestigious events have not only attracted top-tier curling talent but have also placed Calgary at the forefront of the curling world.
The 2027 championships will be a collaborative effort between Curling Canada, the University of Calgary, and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). This marks the first time Calgary will host both the U SPORTS and CCAA curling championships, creating an exciting opportunity for the city to showcase its curling community. The event will bring together top student-athletes from universities and colleges across Canada, highlighting the rising talent in the curling world.
The University of Calgary’s curling program, which gained varsity status in 2022, has been steadily improving in recent years. In fact, the U of C Dinos curling team will act as the host school for the U SPORTS championships. The team’s success has been building since it was elevated to varsity status, and the program is excited to show off its talent on home turf. One of the program’s most notable accomplishments came in 2007, when Brittany Gregor, a former University of Calgary skip, led Canada to a gold medal in women’s curling at the Winter Universiade in Italy.
In recent years, the U SPORTS Canadian University Championships have been fiercely competitive. In 2025, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks from Ontario made an unforgettable impact, sweeping both the men’s and women’s gold medals at the U SPORTS Canadian University Championships in Lethbridge, Alberta. The women’s team, led by Emma Artichuk, and the men’s team, led by Kibo Mulima, dominated the competition, showcasing the depth of talent in university curling.
On the other hand, the SAIT Trojans will be aiming to win their second national curling titles in both the men’s and women’s categories. The Trojans’ women’s team captured the gold medal in 1985 with a victory led by Donna Badau in Saskatoon, while the men’s team, under the leadership of Jay Peressini, won the men’s title a year later in Kamloops, B.C. The SAIT Trojans, with a strong curling program and a dedicated group of athletes, are poised to challenge for the top spots once again on their home turf.

Meanwhile, the 2025 CCAA Championships saw impressive performances from teams across the country. The PACWEST Conference from British Columbia, with Team Emily Bowles, clinched the women’s title, while the Mohawk College Mountaineers from Ontario, led by Team Jacob Jones, claimed the men’s title. These victories highlighted the competitive nature of college curling, further raising the stakes for the 2027 championships.
The Calgary Curling Club, with its storied history of hosting national events, is the perfect venue for this landmark championship. The club has been a cornerstone of the Canadian curling scene, having hosted various prestigious events such as the 2011 and 1998 New Holland Canadian Under-20 Championships, the 2008 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, and the 2001 Canadian Senior Championships. With its experienced staff and world-class facilities, the Calgary Curling Club provides an ideal setting for the best in Canadian university and college curling to compete for glory.
The 2027 U SPORTS and CCAA curling championships will be the eighth time these two competitions have been held simultaneously, thanks to the longstanding partnership with Curling Canada. This collaboration has allowed for an enhanced experience for both athletes and fans, making it a true celebration of Canada’s curling community.
Looking ahead, the 2026 U SPORTS and CCAA Championships are set for February 17-21 in Regina, Saskatchewan, continuing the tradition of exciting university and college curling competitions. However, in 2027, Calgary will once again be at the center of the curling universe, giving fans and athletes alike a chance to witness the future stars of the sport on a grand stage.
With the city’s passion for curling and its proven track record of hosting exceptional events, the 2027 U SPORTS and CCAA curling championships in Calgary are set to be a memorable and thrilling chapter in the sport’s history.
