In the US, California is a state which has the second-most federally recognized Indigenous tribes in the country, the state officials and tribal leaders on Wednesday declared about an initiative that would drive up tourism in native communities.
The said campaign – ‘Visit Native California’, and its accompanying website are financed by the American Rescue Plan Act, with a $1 million grant, which targets public health and financial effect of the COVID and in 2021, was signed into law by President Joe Biden. Tribes declared it together with Visit California, the primary tourism marketing agency of the state.
It’s one of the recent initiations to renew the tourism sector countrywide after the early stage of the pandemic temporarily stopped travel and the spending that comes with it. In tourism in 2020, California lost a projected $72.8 billion in spending, as per a research by Tourism Economics, a data and consulting firm. The main target is to notify the tourists in terms of art, music, nature, and history that for generations have shaped the tribal communities. The website will enhance locations around California, via podcasts, and offer itineraries for travelers.
The chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Reid D. Milanovich, said that this project, this site, gives their tribe a chance, to share their culture.
On 2023, the plaza, which will be opened for public, hosting 48,000-square-foot Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, a trail and a spa at the sacred Agua Caliente mineral hot spring.
