In Cambodia’s Water Festival over 900k tourists took part in 3 days

One of the largest festivals in the Southeast Asian nation is the water festival which was marked from 18th-20th Nov. this year. On 22nd Nov. Cambodia’s three day Water festival over 9,00,000 tourists took part. As the majority of the country’s population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 said Thong Khon (Tourism Minister).

Among the tourists, there were 899,870 locals and 10,281 foreigners living in the country. On Sunday, Khon said the number of tourists during this year’s Water Festival rose 54% compared to that of last year. Organized boat races during the occasion by Kandal, Kampong Speu, Pursat, and Banteay Meanchey attracted many spectators said Khon.

In Feb. COVID-19 inoculation drive was launched by Cambodia. According to the Ministry of Health, the country administered at least one vaccine dose to 14.09 million people and 88% of its 16 million population. Among them, 13.23 million or 82.7 % have been vaccinated fully and 2.13 million or 13.3 % have received a booster shot.

WHO representative to Cambodia Li Ailan urged people to continue exercising caution although they’ve been fully vaccinated. As per MOH, in the last 24 hours, there were 41 new COVID-19 cases which increased the total infection tally to 119,867. Adding more to it, 4 fatalities took the overall death toll to 2,900.
