Canada Day weekend sparks lucrative cruise business in Vancouver

 Monday, July 3, 2017

Cruise tourismVancouver is expected to welcome eight cruise vessels to its downtown harbor over the long weekend for Canada Day thereby positively impacting the local businesses of this part of the world.

It is estimated that the economic benefit of tourists disembarking from luxury liners might be as high as $24 million as per the Port of Vancouver.

This is based on approximately $3 million per ship from the passengers releasing cash on hotel stays, restaurants and tours during their stay. These tourists along with the ones including the Canada Day revelers imply that downtown Vancouver is going to be really crowded.

The Port of Vancouver is estimating that a record number of tourists is likely to pass through Canada Place on 1st, 2nd and 3rd July.

Some of the local business owners feel that though a few cruise ships would be arriving at this port, it might not make up for the clumsy sales during the remaining part of the year, especially with exorbitant food prices on account of the low dollar.

Even the hotel industry has not witnessed a smooth journey this year.
