On Canada’s tourism sector, COVID-19 has had a major effect as travel restrictions, both domestically and internationally, lessened tourist visits to various attractions across the country. For this, the Government of Canada created the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF). This would help businesses related to tourism along with organizations in investing in products and services to make their future growth easy, while meeting public health requirements.
The Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan), today declared about TRF funding of $150,000 to the Fraser River Discovery Centre Society (FRDCS).
The FRDCS with this funding will expand the Fraser River Discovery Centre’s offerings via Indigenous events and exhibits. These will inform the story of the Fraser River from Indigenous perspectives. Part of this move will comprise the development of a Place of Learning about the Indigenous Heritage and Teachings of the Fraser River. It will be developed in tandem with the Musqueam Indian Band and, other Fraser River First Nations.
On the Fraser River’s Indigenous heritage, this project will provide a valuable source of public information, creating new jobs, and push tourism to the Centre and surrounding businesses in New Westminster.
