Canada has decided to allow fully vaccinated travellers from to cross the land border and enter the country, starting Monday. However, Alberta’s tourism industry is not hoping to receive a huge inflow of visitors from the United States.
This is the first time American travellers will be allowed to arrive at Canada for non-essential travel since March 2020. The move comes as the federal government simplifies public health restrictions that was put in place at the onset of the pandemic.
Travellers will have to produce a proof of complete vaccination at least 14 days before arrival along with a negative COVID-19 test. Those under 12 years of age and cannot yet get their shot are allowed to enter Canada if their parents are fully immunized.
Although, businesses will welcome American visitors back to Canada. Those who rely on tourism to Alberta certainly will not see an overnight recovery, according to Tourism Calgary CEO Cindy Ady. It was mentioned that the border opening will be a great signal and an important step and allow the industry to market longer-range travel options, including the upcoming ski season.
