Canadian conference centres, airports, stadiums desires to achieve anti-pandemic status

To re-connect with the market and boost business operators of Canada’s conference centre, airports and stadium are concentrating on achieving the certification for anti-pandemic venue. With a desire to be known as pandemic-resistant and attract visitors to boost business and attain economic benefits,  the operators are engaged in the mad-rush.

In last few weeks, convention centres in Edmonton and Calgary, B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver and the Trudeau International Airport in Montreal mentioned of attainting the GBAC Star accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, a division of international cleaning industry association ISSA.

According to Kurby Court, CEO of the Calgary Telus Convention Centre stated that it is of key importance for Calgary to be identified as a safe destination for conventions. Achieving safe certification will encourage  booking inquiries for events for next three or four years in the future, and the business will continues even after a vaccine has been developed for COVID-19. Thus, the certification of virus resistance is the most desired one at the moment.

It has been studied that when visitors evaluate destinations and scopes of safety in the destination, they automatically book the venue and assist in business growth. The centres become usable only after receiving the certificate for safe status from coronavirus.

The accreditation is designed to show that training has taken place and there’s a proven system of cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention for staff and buildings to head off biohazards like the novel coronavirus.

Facilities must follow specific criteria to show compliance with the program’s 20 elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.
