Caravan tourism is becoming popular in Himachal Pradesh, and the state government is focusing on it. Caravan tourism has turned popular in pandemic times, as one can remain confined in caravans without mixing with too many people.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that the government will promote and develop this tourism model, and improve circuits, especially at places with inadequate hotel accommodation. Other Indian states like Kerala, Goa, and Karnataka have already taken steps for caravan tourism promotion. The aim of caravan tourism is luring more domestic and foreign tourists.

The Chief Minister added that sites with traditional Kathkuni style architecture will be linked to other tourist circuits and Kangra’s art gallery. The historic forts of Himachal will also be given a facelift, along with several mountain biking tracks.

INR 50 crorewill be spent under the NaiRahenNaiManzilen scheme, inclusive of water sports in Larji and Tattapani, paragliding in Bir Billing and Chanshal, and Shiv Dham in Mandi. The Himachal government is also thinking about conservation of heritage buildings, eco-tourism, water sports wellness centers, Buddhist circuits and more in two phases.
