Carnival Sunshine Completes Drydock Maintenance in France Ahead of Norfolk Deployment Offering Year-Round Cruises to the Bahamas and Caribbean

The Carnival Sunshine is set to begin a new chapter as it prepares for its upcoming deployment to Norfolk, Virginia, as a year-round homeport vessel. The Carnival Cruise Line ship recently entered drydock in Marseille, France, for routine maintenance and upgrades, following a trans-Atlantic crossing from Charleston earlier this month. This significant development marks a key milestone for the 2,964-guest vessel, which has been a part of the Carnival fleet since its launch in 1996.

Routine Drydock and Upgrades: The drydock, which commenced on January 15, 2025, includes essential technical maintenance, class work, and general upkeep of the ship’s hotel spaces. This ensures the vessel is in top condition for its new itinerary, which will commence in mid-February 2025. Norfolk Homeport Deployment: Once the drydock is complete, the Carnival Sunshine will return to North America to begin its deployment from Norfolk. Starting in mid-February 2025, the vessel will offer six- to eight-night cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. These itineraries are designed to cater to a wide range of travelers, featuring visits to Carnival Corporation’s popular private destinations, Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays.

The Sunshine’s deployment also includes itineraries to Bermuda during the summer, and beginning in late September 2025, the ship will add visits to Carnival Cruise Line’s new private destination, Celebration Key. This strategic addition aims to enhance the guest experience with exclusive offerings in the Caribbean region.

Initially launched as the Carnival Destiny in 1996, the vessel was the first passenger ship to exceed 100,000 gross tons.
