Experienced French hotelier Michel Schilling and his partner, Kerstin Frädrich, are relishing a new challenge in their lives after being appointed as the new general manager and rooms division manager at the luxury Carrossa Hotel Spa Villas in the north-east of Mallorca.

Schilling, 46, has been in the hotel business for 25 years in the Balearic Islands and boasts an impressive CV, with previous high-profile positions including as general manager for the well-known five-star Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel, where he oversaw a staff of 500 people.

His partner, Kerstin, 41, who originally trained as an environmental scientist, can also call on a wealth of experience in tourism and communication and as an event manager in the Balearics, while the pair are also fluent in eight languages between them.

And the attraction of Carrossa – which features 76 rooms and suites and an array of luxury facilities, as well as four nearby golf courses and the boutique hotel’s very own “Carrossa” luxury yacht – proved too much for the pair to resist when the Hamacher family came calling.

Schilling and Frädrich have no shortage of exciting ideas in mind for the charming property and how they can help it to reach its full potential in the luxury resort market, both at home and internationally.

Schilling said that Carrossa is the perfect fit and we are both very happy with the decision we have made.

“The better you know your guests, the sooner you can meet their expectations, and a hotel like Carrossa makes this realistic. I have had a lot of experience in hospitality on a mass level, and I feel as though I would now really like to focus on something on a smaller and more intimate level.

At Carrossa, they will have a closer relationship with the guests and, therefore, understand their needs on a much more personable level. Carrossa is boutique and the perfect size for this to work efficiently and consistently.

Frädrich added that although they have lived in the Balearic Islands for many years now, it is as if, at Carrossa, they are coming home for the first time. They are a great team and their different areas of expertise reflect on the flow of the hotel’s efficiency and consistency. This is further heightened by the fact that it is family owned so there’s a lot of passion going into the hotel which, ultimately, means a better guest experience and that’s the most important thing.
