In 2018 in Cebu, adventure tourism and faith tourism has a huge chance to flourish.
Cebu Provincial Tourism Officer Joselito “Boboi” Costas explained that this year the provincial government is all set developing greater number of destinations for tourists as they carry on training on wide variety of local government units (LGUs) related to sustainable tourism.
“Watch out for new destinations — local and community-based. We are emphasizing adventure safety and tourist safety. Also faith-based, because we’re running up to 2021,” he told reporters.
Cebu will be the center of festivity in Southeast Asia in 2021 for the 500th year ever since the first navigation worldwide by Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguese explorer and consequently the 500th year of Christianization in the Philippines.
Costas informed that the organizers of the global activity visited and met with Capitol officials earlier to talk about the forthcoming events.
“In terms of faith-based tourism, we want to improve our value chain, especially in our cultural-heritage tours. 2021 is the quincentennial celebration of Magellan’s death. There is a ecclesiastical component in that because that is the conversion of the Philippines, especially Cebu,” he explained.
The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) will be developing the present tourist sites, for example, churches in Cebu towns, watch towers and similar landmarks.
This is the reason Costas explained that they will be aiming on inter linking communities within the said tourist spots leading up to the event, with the estimated arrival of tourists in 2021, particularly from European nations and Catholics across the globe.
Without pinpointing on any particular religion, he said “religious buffs” from different foreign countries are also anticipated to fly to Cebu to take part in different activities to be in place in time for the celebration.
