Welcome the Year of the Rooster this Chinese New Year with a colorful program of Far Eastern performances and activities on Al Maryah Island this January. From Chinese dragon dances, to an exciting food market, the island will be packed with authentic experiences for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
On Friday, January 27th and Saturday 28th, Al Maryah Island’s waterfront Promenade will be abuzz with colorful performances, authentic Chinese cooking, arts & crafts, and an electrifying fireworks display at 09:00 pm on Friday27th.
A daily live show will captivate visitors of all ages as they are taken on a theatrical journey through China, starting with a colorful parade of iconic characters, followed by serene umbrella, fan and kite dances, tranquil yet gripping performances from meditating monks, and acrobatics. The show will culminate with a dramatic live Chinese drumming performance, one of the most ancient Chinese entertainment traditions.
The artists and their elaborate and colorful dress, including the dragon costumes and drumming band, are professional Eastern performers, ensuring visitors have a truly authentic experience of this vibrant celebration.
Throughout the weekend, children can take part in delightful, hands-on activities such as dragon origami, blossom drawing, lantern making, kite designing and face painting. Visitors can also enjoy clay figure making, Chinese paper crafts, sugar painting and a bubble show, and sample authentic treats such as sugar coated haws – a traditional Chinese sweet from food trucks and stalls lined up on the Promenade.
The fun does not stop with the entertainment – authentic food offerings available around in the Promenade will take guests on a culinary trip to China, and allow them to watch and learn about traditional cooking techniques.
The Galleria on Al Maryah Island
Complementing Al Maryah Island’s waterfront activities, The Galleria on Al Maryah Island will be transformed into a spectacular display of Chinese attire, with lanterns illuminating the property, and an Ang Pao tree of fortune where visitors can make a Chinese New Year wish.
Amongst the authentic décor, an eclectic program of dance and music performances, headlined by acrobatics show,Cirque Shanghai Extraordinaire will enthrall visitors, as well as craft workshops and demonstrations of Chinese calligraphy, tea making and sugar painting, and more.
In addition, a Chinese art exhibition will be on display at The Galleria from January 26th January until February 4th, showcasing the art work of the famous Chinese folk artist Yuan Hongbin, who received the Shanhua Award and Gold Medal and Shanhua Lifetime Achievement Award for representing the highest artistic achievement of Chinese folk art, amongst other accolades.
Rosewood Abu Dhabi
Guests at Rosewood Abu Dhabi can also join in the celebrations at Dai Pai Dong, where diners can choose a special Chinese New Year dinner feast from January 25th – February 3rd, or a Yum Cha brunch over the weekend.
