The Center has permitted a scheme by the Rajasthan Tourism department for developing Shri Tanot Complex in Jaisalmer as a tourist attraction for improving tourism in the region. The Center has also approved INR 17.67 crore for activities related to tourism and development of groundwork in the region.

These isolated desert areas closeto the border areas boast of several war heroics and cultural tradition, which are expected to lure tourists. This latest initiative will deliver more safe and suitable access to the location.

This enterprise of Rajasthan Tourism accompanied by central agencies and the Border Security Force (BSF) will not only help visitors acquire knowledge about the existence of people and security forces residing in the border areas, but will create a new avenue for locals in these distant villages.

The government is also considering building an interpretation center, cafeteria, amphitheater, solar-powered street lighting, children’s activity area, signage, surveillance system among other amenities in Tanot village of Jaisalmer district. The BSF will take care of operating and preserving the tourist attractions, together with organizing exhibitions for tourists.

Keeping the tourism activities in mind, the BSF will also bring together a weapon show, screen a documentary film and establish a photo gallery at the Operations Base in Jaisalmer. Longewala located in the border area is known for the bravery of the Indian armed forces during the 1971 conflict with Pakistan.
