The provincial tourism chief said on Saturday, “Tourism infrastructure is being upgraded on the riversides of Zayandeh-Rood.”

A budget of 20 billion rials has been distributed to the project, Mehrdad Javadi added.

The project is geared up to create an access road to the Saman tourism area, overlooking the river. The official added that it also aims to promote the region as a tourist destination.

In the central plateau of Iran, Zayandeh-Rood, meaning ‘life-giving River’, is the largest river. It flows from west to east and is the most well-known river of Iran after Karoon.

Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari lies in the southwestern Iran. Shahrekord is its capital city. The province has several traditions as well as rituals relative to the ‘tribal’ lifestyles. Special music, dance, and clothing are of tremendous importance. It has substantial potential to turn into an exciting tourist attraction due to its changing natural landscape.

Also, the province is a central hub for making wool felt products, which are exported abroad mainly. It is home to 500 crafters, in more than 250 workshops, making handmade felt products.

At present, in Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari, 40 tons of felt are yearly being made through traditional and modern manners, which has a possibility to increase to 50 tons, as per official data. Experts believe that Shahr-e Kord has the potential to be a world city for felt products.
