The Charaideo Maidam region will be developed as a pivotal cultural and academic center by the Assam government. This was said by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while speaking at the 35th Biennial Conference of the Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha at Charaideo on Wednesday. Sonowal urged the elected representatives to consult with the local people to solicit their views for preparing a road map for this purpose. He also advocated a bigger role for the Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha in the inclusive growth of all the indigenous communities of the state.

He said that the Tai language has great potential in developing socio-economic situation of the region and can initiate better trade linkages between Assam and South East Asian regions and boost social relationship. To quote Sonowal, “Tai is an international language. Its learning will open floodgates of opportunities for the young generation of the State. It will help in the growth of trade and cultural bonding.”
Sonowal further restated that his government in taking adequate measures for preservation of Charaideo Maidams and steps has already been taken to place this site prominently in world tourism map. The recently elected brand ambassador of Assam Tourism Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra will also assist in promoting Charaideo in international tourist circuit.
