Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has set a new benchmark in 2025 by surpassing 55 million passengers, marking a significant milestone in its rise as a leading global aviation hub. This impressive achievement underscores the airport’s continued growth and its increasing importance within India’s aviation network, reflecting heightened demand for both domestic and international travel.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) concluded 2025 on a high note, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward becoming a global aviation hub. The airport handled approximately 55.5 million passengers in the year, a solid increase from the previous year. This performance underscores the airport’s continued expansion and strategic importance within India’s aviation network. The total traffic included over 16.3 million international and 39.2 million domestic travelers. These figures reflect a 1.3% year-on-year increase over 2024’s 54.8 million passengers and a robust 7.6% rise compared to 2023’s numbers, highlighting the growing demand for air travel.

The passenger movement at CSMIA was strongly influenced by peak travel seasons, with the busiest periods aligning with key holidays and festivals. January 2025 emerged as the busiest month of the year, with nearly 5 million passengers passing through the airport. November followed closely behind, with approximately 4.9 million passengers. A standout achievement in November occurred on the 29th, when CSMIA recorded its highest-ever single-day passenger traffic of 175,925 passengers. This remarkable feat was part of a broader trend, as the month saw three of the busiest single days in the airport’s history. The final quarter of the year, traditionally a high-traffic period, also saw significant growth, handling a total of 14.36 million passengers—the highest quarterly passenger traffic for CSMIA.

Along with the passenger growth, the airport also experienced an impressive surge in Air Traffic Movements (ATMs). In 2025, CSMIA reached a record 331,011 ATMs, which included 92,141 international movements and 238,870 domestic movements. The peak daily ATM count occurred on November 21, 2025, when the airport recorded 1,036 movements in a single day. This marks a 25% increase in ATMs compared to 2022, further solidifying CSMIA’s role as one of India’s busiest and most operationally advanced airports.

The airport’s expansion in terms of connectivity was another major highlight of 2025. CSMIA launched new international routes to several key destinations, including Almaty, Amman, Bali (Denpasar), Copenhagen, Fujairah, Krabi, Manchester, and Tbilisi. Domestically, CSMIA further strengthened its network with new services to cities such as Adampur, Amravati, Hindon, Jharsuguda, Porbandar, and Solapur. These new routes not only enhanced the airport’s connectivity within India but also expanded its global reach, facilitating increased travel to and from Mumbai.

Dubai remained the most popular international destination for CSMIA travelers, maintaining its dominance as the top international city with the largest share of traffic. The top domestic destinations were led by Delhi, which accounted for 17% of total domestic traffic, followed by Bengaluru at 10%, and Goa with 6%. Internationally, Dubai accounted for 15% of the airport’s international traffic, with London and Abu Dhabi each contributing 7.5%.

The Middle East was the leading region for international travel from CSMIA, contributing a significant 48.8% of total international traffic. Asia-Pacific followed with 28.2%, while Europe contributed 14.5%. These figures reflect the growing importance of CSMIA as a key hub connecting India to the Middle East, a region with strong economic ties to the country.

CSMIA’s operational success was also driven by the leadership of major airlines. On the international front, airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates dominated traffic volumes, further bolstering the airport’s role as a major international gateway. Domestically, IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air were the leading airlines, collectively handling a large portion of the airport’s domestic traffic.

In addition to passenger and flight operations, CSMIA’s continued investments in digital technologies played a crucial role in enhancing the passenger experience. The airport has consistently focused on improving its services through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, streamlining check-in processes, enhancing baggage handling systems, and upgrading security procedures. These technological advancements, coupled with a strong commitment to customer service, have positioned CSMIA as a key player in the competitive global aviation landscape.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has surpassed 55 million passengers in 2025, setting a new record and reinforcing its position as a major global aviation hub. This achievement highlights the airport’s robust growth, driven by strong demand across both domestic and international routes. The milestone cements CSMIA’s role in shaping the future of India’s aviation landscape.

As CSMIA looks ahead, the airport’s continued growth is expected to be driven by increased demand for both international and domestic travel. With the airport’s expanding connectivity network, increasing operational efficiency, and passenger-focused innovations, CSMIA is set to further solidify its position as one of India’s leading airports and a crucial gateway for travelers worldwide. The year 2025 has set a strong foundation, and CSMIA is well-poised for even greater achievements in the years to come.
