He has previously worked as the People & Strategy Director and Deputy Managing Director at Arriva Rail North and subsequently the OLR-led Northern Trains Ltd, and he is expected to join Chiltern in early October.
He succeeds Mary Hewitt, who has been acting as Interim Managing Director at Chiltern since the beginning of 2020, when Dave Penney moved to Network Rail’s North West & Central Region as Route Director, Central.
Hewitt will return to her role as Strategy & Policy Director at Arriva UK Trains on a part-time basis. She will also have other responsibilities besides heading the office.
Managing Director of Arriva UK Trains Chris Burchell on this occasion mentioned that the management is happy with the decision and is delighted to have Richard in the new position in the Arriva family. Since amidst uncertain environment Chiltern Railways is one of the worst hits and suffered from lack of business for several months now, new changes are expected to boost business by attracting customers. The railway industry is hence eying on changes and it is also expected by the team that with experience and knowledge in strategic business management Richard will come up with fresh contingency plans to attract business and shape the future of the company in a positive way.
