China Southern Airlines is happy to announce its new position as the world’s largest airline that has succeeded over U.S carriers Delta and American Airlines. As the local aviation market is still not functional properly in China, the airline has exploited on the global decline in aviation to claim the top spot.
As the key international airlines have significantly reduced the operation, China Southern has somewhat managed to return to its pre-COVID period. Now it is to be seen if the airline will remain in its position of not, since just last week Delta Air Lines celebrated becoming the world’s largest before being overtaken.
As per OAG China Southern has a capacity of 2,580,529 this 26 October, and it has crossed the American Airlines and Delta. And this mentioned about a sudden dip of 10% on its pre-COVID capacity that was 2,877,703 on 20 January. Other Chinese airlines, including China Eastern Airlines and Air China have also managed to get close to pre-COVID times. China Southern has almost returned to its capacity to earlier times.
And this is surprising for premium aviation brands and also for those that have suffered over 50% dip in their capacity since January 2020. American Airlines had over 4.8 million capacities in January, which has now been slashed to 2.4 million. Unattractive figures at other major airlines in North America and Europe disclose a similar story.
Besides main approaches the important strategic decisions successfully helped in managing several important aspects of China Southern Airlines. The airline focussed on becoming the world’s largest airline.
China Southern’s Senior Vice-President for International and Corporate Relations, Wu Guoxiang, delineated the airline’s aims in a South China Morning Post interview, in few years they will become the finest and need flexibility to cooperate as per expected.
