China to be a theme park capital, drawing 330 million visitors by 2020

The theme parks of China are expecting to welcome over 300 million visitors a year within 2020 making China the amusement park capital of the world.

There has been a growing demand for thrill rides and immersive travel experiences that would make the Chinese mainland surpass Japan and the United States to be the undisputed theme park capital of the world in the next two years.

Rising public demand has given rise to a boom in theme park development in China.

Presently there are over 2,500 amusement parks across the nation. Regular visits to these sites are predicted to exceed 330 million by the year 2020 as per a report that was published by Euromonitor International that is a reputed global consulting firm.

As many as 300 of these parks have received investment of more than $7.95 million but they would be more than the recoup as retail sales are estimated to touch $12 billion over the next two years marking a 367% growth over 2010.

Of the 20 most popular theme parks among Asian tourists, 13 are based in China as claimed by a report by Themed Entertainment Association that is an international nonprofit organization.

Among the heavyweights are Disneyland, which launched its Shanghai park to much fanfare in June 2016, while Universal Studios’ Beijing site is expected to open its doors by 2020.

Other international theme parks including South Korea’s Lotte World and Japan’s Hello Kitty park are also preparing to move to the mainland.

However, it’s not just the big international parks that are enjoying the ride, many domestic theme park brands have increasingly made their presence felt to a great extent.
