China’s domestic tourism witnessed a strong rebound in the just-ended Golden Week holiday. Particularly in Xi’an, tourism was booming once again. As per the data released on October 10th by the Xi’an Municipal People’s Government, during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday 2020, the ancient capital welcomed almost 14.7481 million visitors and recorded tourism revenue of 11.14 billion yuan approximately. From a horizontal comparison of Chinese cities in regard to the tourist number received, Xi’an occupied the second spot of the top ten most popular Chinese tourist destinations in the country.


2020’s National Day holiday is the first Golden Week since China has started coming back to normalcy with the COVID prevention and control measures. At first, the 8-day holiday attracted people to travel, with gradual recovery of the transportation sector, like traveling through airlines, railways and automobiles. Such powerful travel demand caused major revival in holiday tourism.


Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Park welcomed 343,100 tourists; Grand Tang Mall got almost 1,400,900 tourists, and Beiyuanmen Moslem Street (Huimin Jie) received 729,900 tourists. As a well-known tourist city with many years of reputation, the tourism of Xi’an is thriving once again, becoming even more attractive and appealing than ever before.


Because of the global epidemic, people selected domestic tourist destinations. Still, the recovery of the tourism market of China has sent a “positive signal” worldwide. Now, visiting Xi’an has become a shared expectation of many people from various countries of the world. “Xi’an is one of the most famous and fascinating cities in China.” On the occasion of the National Day holiday in China, the world renowned news agency Reuters published a special issue on its website to promote the image of Xi’an, presenting how “Ancient and Modern Collide” in the mesmerizing old capital Xi’an from different angles.


Reuters showed the world in a special issue the appeal and vitality of Xi’an through 10 impressive articles, showcasing its history, culture, nature, sports, scholarship, music, gourmet, technology, and urban development. Also, Xi’an has produced many “web celebrity attractions” receiving “Likes” from netizens at home and abroad for the deep cultural elements and the open, modern and stylish characters.
