Last year Australia witnessed more than 1 million Chinese travelers taking local tourism to further heights. As a whole, 8.3 million travelers entered Australia in 2015 as short term stay. However, New Zealand was the country with highest source for tourist arrivals. 1.3 million Kiwis entered Australia in 2016. China comes second on the list with 1.2 million visitors with a record growth 284 percent.
While talking to SBS News in January, Dr Patrick L’Espoir Decosta from the Australian National University said that years of work made Australia one of the most sought-after destinations for international visitors and better financial condition and its growth in India and China made these curious people to travel and explore.
To quote Dr. Patrick, ‘’ People from these two countries are ready to travel, and they want to see first world countries. You will find high-yield Chinese visitors who just want to do the high points – the rock and the reef – and stay somewhere very glamorous. Then (there are) other people who seriously want to do the backpacker track and that’s the beauty of Australia – we offer the lot.’’ Jessica Noack from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Migration Analysis and Reporting Team said, ‘’ “China has almost caught up to New Zealand as the most popular source country for visitors to Australia’’.
