The Citrus County’s tourist tax revenue sustained its ascent in August, registering an 18.33% year-over-year growth.

In the month of August, the county achieved $373,895 from the tax, compared to $315,964 one year before, marking a growth of almost $58,000.

The tourist (or bed) tax is charged on those who halt at hotels, motels, campgrounds, RV parks and short-term rentals. The tax is generally accepted by tourists. However, the tax has no effect on the residents.
In 2017, county commissioners increased the tourist levy from 3% to 5%.

From October 2021 to August 2022, the county collected $2.88 million in tourist levy currency, compared to $2.23 million the year before.

In terms of revenue, the county witnessed a surge in occupancy amount and daily room rate which led to best ever collection figures during 2021 and 2022.

John Pricher, the director of Citrus County Tourist Development said that these numbers are mainly propelled by domestic visitors with negligible international travelers in the past two years.

Citrus County has witnessed a fantastic success rate over the past two years, and Pricher applauded the entire hospitality community for this accomplishment.

The Citrus County Tourist Development Council will be assembling morning at 9 on Wednesday at 3600 W. Sovereign Path.
