Club Med, all-inclusive holiday brands, will be opening its second property near Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia by 2022 end. The property will be situated at Kuala Penyu Beach in the northern portion of Borneo and will be a 90-minute drive from Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
The resort’s design will have traditional Bornean culture’s touch. The structure will be combined with the surroundings and will have local and sustainably sourced materials in it.
There will be 400 rooms, including 40 luxury suites for the 5 Trident exclusive collections. Children club facilities, pools and restaurants will also be there in addition to 30 water and land sports facilities and excursions to explore Sabah.
Kuala Penyu happens to be a coastal district situated one-and-a-half-hours away from Kota Kinabalu city. The city is known for its serene beaches, which are very lesser known to tourists. The tourist inflow has been witnessed in the more developed shorelines of Tanjung Lipat, Tanjung Aru Beach and KK.
Club Med is also going to collaborate with owners Golden Sands Beach Resort City to create sustainability built BREEAM certified beach resort in Asia Pacific.
GSBRC is a company formed by investors, who have business experience in the country and abroad with focus on hospitality industry and property developments in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.
The Club Med focuses on creating new resorts in naturally beautiful locations and becomes discoverable bucket list destinations in their own capacity, said president of the Club Med, Henri Giscard d’Estaing.
He said that the starting of the resort in Kuala Penya Beach will allow the group to showcase the Sabah’s beautiful surroundings in an undiscovered part of the world.
