This year’s Commonwealth 2022 design infatuates the global citizen. Festivals and celebrations are at their peak this year. Not just the usual Commonwealth-related zest but also because this year it is the long-awaited refreshment, a festival of togetherness, sportsman spirit and togetherness that was missing for the last two years straight from everybody’s life.

Birmingham city is filled with the colours and eventfulness that warms the heart of not just a sportsperson but also someone who would want to catch up with friends, culture and outdoor life after a long gap. Seems like an exam preparation gap that we all just kicked away together.

So, how is this celebration been decorated at all? We tried to jot down a couple of attractions for the Commonwealth celebrations. While the sports schedule is a hot topic of discussion and subject to many discussions, some other events in the festival are worthy enough to draw the global citizen to Birmingham.

The grand opening

They say for a successful event, the beginning has to be successful. This year the Commonwealth is opening on 17 March. The first three days of the event are going to be extremely extravagant to witness. The flying celebrations of this year include the aerial spectacle of bicycles grabs not just the attention of the spectator but also setting high expectations for the coming days.

This year there are splendid attractions like a colossal globe and a flying book at the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony is happening at the Alexander Stadium. A mixture of singing, dancing and acting performance is going to adorn sportsmanship to be cherished all across the festival. The band Duran Duran is going to perform, which are counted among the most popular bands in entire Birmingham.

The museum’s finally opening!

The museum is finally after the long gap since the infamous 2020 lockdown. In the last two years, the museum had been opened just for the sake of maintenance purposes and left thousands of spectators disappointed and deprived. All of this suffering ends on 28 April as the museum is finally opening.

The Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is one of the major attractions of the city. As if the city was working just with half of its charm, without the museum. Apart from the spectacular museum in itself, numerous sensory exhibitions will adorn the occasion. Unseen footage, photographs and personal artefacts of the legendary Que Club music will be displayed on this occasion. Apart from this day, there are numerous events designed for the casual citizen as well as the deeply interested citizen in art and culture.  These festivals range from film screening festivals to unlimited clubbing to classy jazz festivals.

The Birmingham Mela 2022

No festival is complete without a mass Mela that covers a wide range of cultures. This year the Mela is happening with much zest. The Mela is happening on 27-28 August. This year it is the 10th birthday of the Mela. Happening in Victoria Park, Smethwick the Mela is covering everything from funfair to stage performance to promote food villages. One of the most ecstatic experiences is the Art Village where artists gather around to explain their culture and perform. The Mela is an exotic experience for visual artists and shoppers as well.

Birmingham commonwealth can hold the sportsman and a non-sportsperson together. The games and the parties are a breathtaking experience and a much-needed break for everybody. The present Birmingham festival adorns the many colours together with the spirit of a sportsman for all.
