Convention Bureau team for Johannesburg Tourism is happy with the city’s improved International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings.
To quote Rendani Khorommbi, Deputy Director, Joburg Tourism Convention Bureau, “The recently-released ICCA rankings for 2017 indicate that Johannesburg has improved from the 2016 results, by hosting 23 ICCA qualifying meetings, compared to 14 which were hosted in 2016. We have moved from position 186 to 113 globally, while also improving our ranking in Africa from position 5 to 2. Now our team is aiming for a position in the top 100 globally in 2018, while retaining same spot (2) in Africa – there’s no going backwards!”
ICCA Rankings are announced annually by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), which are based on the number of rotating international association meetings hosted in a particular destination.
According to the ICCA criteria, association meetings must:
• Rotate between at least 3 countries
• Attract at least 50 participants, and
• Be held with a certain frequency (ad hoc meetings are not registered).
ICCA now is one of the most famous organizations in the world of international meetings.
