The Cornwall Capacity Enabling Scheme, which forms part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan, will be delivered in two phases, with the first set to be completed by the end of 2018.
In total 21 additional signals will be installed to improve reliability, while six level crossings will be upgraded and fitted with Miniature Signal Lights (MSL), which allows the user to see a green or red light to indicate whether it is safe to cross.
These measures will improve safety at crossings which currently operate as ‘stop, look, listen’ and crossings which require permission from the signaller to use.The work will also allow an additional train per hour in each direction between Plymouth and Penzance following the implementation of a new timetable in December 2018.
Residents have been invited to attend drop-in events next week to find out more about the work taking place and the 3benefits it will bring for rail passengers in the region.
