Quite akin to what was portrayed in the 2011 Hollywood movie Contagion, the corona virus has not only caused more than a million deaths, but it has also brought in sudden changes in the daily lives of people within a very short time, thereby unfavorably affecting global economy and causing widespread alarm.
Of all the industries badly affected in the Covid-19 pandemic, the tourism industry appears to be the hardest hit across the globe, impacting various associated sectors like hospitality, travel agencies and tour operators, all kinds of transportation services, among many more. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTCC), the Covid-19 pandemic is likely to cost the tourism industry almost USD 22 billion and a loss of almost 50 million jobs on a global scale. Therefore, it is no surprise that tourism in India has witnessed a considerable downturn post Covid, in 2020.
