Corona virus cripples Venice tourism

 Tuesday, March 3, 2020

The corona virus epidemic in Italy has hit tourism in Venice and other important cities significantly. After the high floods, fresh disaster has struck the canal city.

Chinese tourists vanished in Venice in January after the corona virus hit their country. Popular for its crowd of tourists, Venice now presents a forlorn look, with travelers canceling their travel plans over corona virus fears.

Over the past three months, the tourism industry of Venice witnessed its share of plagues. Now Italy is experiencing the biggest corona virus outbreak outside Asia, and its effect is also visible in Venice. According to Associazione Venezia Albergatori, an association of local hotel owners, last week, there have been cancellations of 50 percent of reservations in Venice. “The situation is dramatic for the industry,” said Vittorio Bonacini, the association’s chairman.
