The coronavirus has already made a significant impact on Israel’s way of life. Around the world, people are avoiding physical contact, washing their hands frequently, and are shunning crowded spaces.
The numbers of the infected, the numbers of the recovered, and most tragically, the numbers of those who have succumbed from the virus are quite alarming.
Besides the numbers that are being reported about the disease, there are victims who are not being counted, and among them there are people who work in the global tourism industry.
Although Israel has historically shown how it can pull together at times of emergencies, the threat we face now is different, and its impact is huge, and thus, we need to show our ability as a nation to support each other.
As per latest data available from the Ministry of Tourism, the industry employs around 145,000 people – roughly the size of the city of Rehovot. In few weeks, due to increasingly stringent restrictions on who can enter Israel by the Ministry of Health, tourism professionals now face a lot of difficulties after a wave of cancellations.
