Covid -19 pandemic is casting its worst impact during the Christmas and New Year season. While several countries are re-imposing phase wise lockdown, travel services are equally worried and the government along with the tourism management are forcing discontinuation of year ending cruise services. Public health is important and the Government has imposed a temporary halt following apprehension on health care system. The Italian Government also stated that they have developed a unique model of the tourism sector and will accordingly continue services to ensure proper operation management.

Last 4 months was crucial. Costa stated that during the holiday period, its ships would be in various ports and it would offer a special food donation programme. And now the decision by the government of suspension of services during the year ending time, will cause issues, but will however not affect the Company.

Cancellation of booking during the Christmas –New Year phase is however expected to impact on the economic condition of the company, as this is the most attractive period for travel and tourism and cruise operations. Closing down during this period will be difficult for their operation.

Costa said it will resume service with the Costa Smeralda on January 7, 2021 with the one-week itinerary, dedicated exclusively to Italy, that can be divided into two short cruises of three and four days each, departing from Civitavecchia.
