The countdown to World Tourism Day this year is now in progress.

Every slice of the tourism sector is invited for being an active part of the yearly merriments.

World Tourism Day this year has the theme of ‘Rethinking Tourism’, focusing on re-imagining the sector’s growth, both regarding size and significance.

Indonesia will be hosting the WTD on September 27.

However, all UNWTO Member States, along with non-members and stakeholders from the private sector, have been invited to host their own revelries and also uphold the day and its pivotal theme.

About this year’s version, Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-general of the UNWTO said that tourism holds huge prospects, and all of us have a shared accountability to ensure that it is completely understood.

On World Tourism Day this year, the UNWTO urges everyone, from tourism workers to tourists along with small businesses, large establishments and governments to reflect and reconsider what can be done and how to do it.

Since 1980, World Tourism Day has been held on September 27th every year. This date marks the anniversary of the acceptance of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970, preparing the founding of the UNWTO five years later.

Pololikashvili said that the World Tourism Day has always presented a chance to assemble and rejoice the diverse accomplishments of the sector, and the sector has celebrated tourism’s unmatched development – in size, in reach and in importance.
