To make cruising an even ‘greener’ way of travelling Cruise Baltic now invites all stakeholders to the second edition of the conference Sustainable Cruising, which takes place in Copenhagen on April 5th, 2022.

Sustainability within the tourism industry has been a topic of interest for several years now, and this goes for the cruise industry as well. Sustainable Cruising is an initiative started in 2019 that aims to take the cruise industry in a sustainable direction. This spring the second edition of Sustainable Cruising will take place in Copenhagen on April 5th, and  registration for the conference is already open.

Particularly social sustainability is on the agenda with top relevant presentations and case studies. However, the main purpose of the second edition of Sustainable Cruising is signing a Memorandum of Understanding, where the Cruise Baltic network asks leading cruise lines to commit to the use of onshore power supply available at the ports in the Baltic Sea region from January 1st, 2024. Several cruise lines have already committed to sign the letter.

“Ambitious visions are important, but sustainable commitments are fundamental to make these ambitions come to life. We’re proud to host Sustainable Cruising in Copenhagen and to invite leading cruise line companies to commit to the use of onshore power supply. Together we can make cruising an even ‘greener’ way of travelling,” says Claus Bødker, Director of Cruise Baltic.

Sustainable Cruising is an opportunity for industry leaders, cruise line executives, politicians, ports, destinations and other stakeholders with connection to the cruise industry to meet, network and share knowledge. Also, the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen will welcome participants before the Memorandum of Understanding is introduced.

As the first conference in 2019 focused on the bold long-term vision of “Making cruising a sustainable vacation offer in 2030”, this year’s conference will focus on the commitment to onshore power supply as one of the steps to realise this vision.
