CSMIA Enchants Diwali with a Festive Cargo Surge of 2,500 Metric Tons for EXIM

Monday, November 20, 2023

With 2,500 metric tons of products processed during the 2023 festive season, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is happy to announce a tremendous jump in cargo exports, all while basking in the festive warmth of Diwali.

The industry that stands out the most is e-commerce, where freight shipments have increased by an astounding 87% year over year. This increase is indicative of both a shift in consumer behavior and the quickly expanding trend of online shopping, especially around holidays. Online shopping’s effectiveness and simplicity have been directly linked to a notable increase in cargo, particularly in the e-commerce sector at CSMIA.

In addition to e-commerce, the gifts & samples category increased by 36% year on year, highlighting the growing importance of the gifting culture during Diwali across the country. Domestic freight movements increased by 64% in outward shipments and 36% in inbound shipments, with a notable 56% preference for domestic goods. Internationally, London appeared as the top destination for CSMIA cargo shipments, while domestically, Delhi topped the way, followed by Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

IndiGo and Quickjet Airlines excelled in managing the increased cargo flow within India, while British Airways and Air India were critical in handling the boom in international cargo shipments. CSMIA implemented strategic efforts to ensure smooth and timely cargo operations, such as improving infrastructure and operating during non-peak hours.

The significant rise in cargo shipments attests to CSMIA’s exceptional capabilities to satisfy growing demand, particularly during the holiday season. Moving ahead, CSMIA will continue to focus on guaranteeing efficient and timely cargo operations, confirming its commitment to delivering valued items with the highest care.
