Declining peso spurs Buenos Aires tourism

buenosBuenos is expecting a large increase in international tourism this year and 2019. As per the official statistics by the government bookings to travel the city during July and December was up by 25 %.

 

 

The fastest growing point of origin as per metrics was London which was followed by Frankfurt, Bogata and Madrid.

 

 

The air transit grew by 3.4 per cent in the period between January and May, 2018 . 796,000 tourists arrived to Buenos Aires, that outnumbered the 2017 figure by 26,000.

 

 

There was a 5.2 per cent increase in the foreign tourist expenditure as compared to last year. There was a sustained growth rate in the room occupancy rate in hotels. It peaked at its highest level during the last seven years between January and April 2018.

 

 

Tourist are enjoying world class hotels, dining, fashion, culture and nightlife at affordable prices due to the devaluation of the peso (Argentina’s national currency).

 

 

The new international air connectivity is also a long-term factor that led to its growth. There will be more new connections in Zurich and Los Angeles bringing 38,700 more tourists every year.

 

 

Gonzalo Robredo, president of the Tourism Authority of Buenos Aires, spoke of the  opportunity that will position the city as the most visited place in the southern hemisphere.

 

He said that to reach there it was important to improve infrastructure and the value capacity of their hotels.
