Delta airlines have refunded about 11 million tickets from 2020. The total amount counts as 6 billion. According to CEO Edward Bastian, one-fifth of the refunds have already happened in 2022.
The airline has also taken other steps to improve passengers’ experiences when they have faced issues due to flight delays.
That includes extra miles and modified schedules. He added that with strong travel demands rising over the summer they are taking action to ensure safe, efficient and operationally reliable travels.
Bastian’s letter was sent to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Monday as a response to Buttigieg’s own letter which was sent to all airlines on Aug. 18.
The hectic weather and the flight schedules have created a very disturbing situation for both the tourism board and the passengers. The Department of Transportation has created an interactive dashboard for travellers to find easy-to-read, concrete summary information regarding the amenities that each airline provides when flights are cancelled.
The dashboard provides correct information and has plans to go live by Friday on the department’s Aviation Consumer Protection website.
Morgan Durrant, a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines said that since safety is the first priority, Delta is looking for the correct compensation for cancellations and delays in flights. The spokesperson said that they have updated some of the languages on the website so that understanding the services and amenities becomes easier for the passengers.
