Departure tax in Malaysia isn’t a good idea

Published on : Tuesday, August 13, 2019

Just when more Malaysians are finding it affordable to fly around the world, the taxes are putting a brake on it with a hefty departure tax coming next month.

Malaysians want to welcome more tourists to their shores, but when they bid farewell, they are taxed.

Many think that the departure levy of between RM8 and RM150, which is on top of the passenger service charge or airport tax does justice to all classes of air travellers.

With more and more Malaysians aiming to see the world in a more affordable way, and this being aided by the airline companies, the departure tax does hinder this progress.
