maldivesFollowing the political unrest in Maldives and the declaration of emergency, the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism insisted on the operation of all tourism operations as normal post a UK Foreign Office travel alert was being issued.

The travel advice by FCO was updated  for the destination after political unrest triggered a state of emergency yesterday.

Security forces have been deployed in the Maldivian capital Male as a result of violent incidents in the wake of political demonstrations as per the travel alert.

The FCO said if you are in Male caution should be exercised and protests and rallies should be avoided as there were no reports that the  outlying islands, resorts or Male international airport were affected.

The Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism urged the UK travel trade that the situation within the country “remains stable” and the organsitaion further mentioned that the state of emergency did not make any restrictions on  traveling to Maldives or within.

It was reported that all international and domestic airports, tourist resorts, hotels, guest houses and accommodating vessels and Marianas were in complete operation and infact all modes of transport were in full operation.
