Director Tourism Kashmir Dr. GN Itoo visited Gulmarg and assembled a meeting of concerned agencies to evaluate the status of departmental assets and ongoing COVID vaccine drive at the famous ski resort.
Dr. Itoo stressed on strengthening of assets at the resort, and asked the executing agencies to makes sure that all pending projects are completed at the earliest so that they are ready once tourism is on track again with improvement of the COVID situation. He also asked for immediate repair works and restoration of the tourist infrastructure.
The director said that the department is celebrating ‘World Environment Day’ across Kashmir during which there will be awareness programmes regarding protection of fragile environment. He directed the officers to engage local population and stakeholders in these awareness campaigns and carry out cleanliness drives at the resort.
During the meeting, Dr. Itoo also assessed the swiftness of vaccination among tourism stakeholders. He came to know that around 90 percent of the hotel staff, tourist guides, ponywallas and other service providers at the resort have been covered under the special immunization programme. He urged the officers and other staff to encourage people to get vaccinated, so that 100 percent target is achieved.
Dr. Itoo said that hotel staff and travel guides are the frontline tourism workers who should be immunized and protected by vaccination for revival of the tourism sector.
